Bob Trout
NEW TRAINING OFFICER

Harrisburg Fire & rescue would like to welcome our new full-time training officer, Bob Trout. Bob took the position of training officer in June of 2007. Bob comes to us with 15 years of fire experience, in which 5 years were spent as a firefighter with a department outside Pittsburgh, Pa. and 10 years as volunteer for our neighboring Junction City Fire District.

Bob spent four years in the military before earning his Associates Degree in Fire Science and getting his certification as an Intermediate Emergency Medical Technician. The training officer, who is one of three paid positions with the district, is in charge of planning, coordinating, and administering training for all district personnel along with public education & fire prevention activities.

Bob is a great addition to our fire district and we would like to take this opportunity to welcome him, his wife and 2 sons.

Ladder Truck
Harrisburg Fire & Rescue is excited to announce the addition of a ladder truck
to our fleet of apparatus. In May, the district agreed to purchase a 1993
E-ONE 100' ladder truck from Deep South Fire Trucks in Seminary, Mississippi.
The truck was delivered on October 22, 2007.

We purchased this truck for $75,000 which reflects a tremendous cost savings than purchasing a new truck for around $500,000. The truck was purchased with a $25,000 contribution from the City of Harrisburg Urban Renewal Fund and the remaining $50,000 coming from a 4 year financing plan.

There are numerous benefits of having a ladder truck in our community,
from reduced insurance premiums to accessibility and safety for our firefighters.
The Fire District, when last evaluated in 2005, maintained its ISO (Insurance Services Office) protection class rating of a class 5. The districts ISO rating
with the ladder truck will be a class 4 with the potential of being a class 3
with future improvements. This will help in lowering insurance premiums for property owners in the community. In addition, this truck will be a great
resource for the accessibility of tall structures and for reaching structures of moderate height that are not directly accessible from the streets and emergency vehicles.

The fire district is currently conducting extensive training with all personnel on the operation and safe handling of this vehicle. We look forward to placing Truck 41 into service sometime in January 2008 and continue to enhance fire & life safety services in our community.

*A Special Thank You!

Harrisburg Volunteer Firefighters Association would like to take this opportunity to recognize Hurds Hardware for their extraordinary effort to support the many volunteers of Harrisburg Fire District. Hurds held a raffle for a Traeger Barbeque in which they donated the entire proceeds of $3000 to the Volunteer Firefighter Association. These funds will be used to help fund community assistance programs that we offer to the community.
We thank you for the very generous and thoughtful contribution and continuing support you have provided.
